Tad Talks: Molly Co-founder of Desmond & Dempsey
We met with Molly Goddard, founder of cult pyjama brand Desmond & Dempsey to talk the perfect Sunday routine, jewellery and everything in between. As an entrepreneur and fellow weekend lover Molly is a woman we want to know.
The Daily
First thing you do in the morning?
Hit Snooze. Then Coffee. I wish it were something more mindful.
What inspires you daily?
I love magazines. The graphics, the smell, the way it all fits on the page.
The Work
What was your inspiration for setting up Desmond & Dempsey?
It was more of a need truthfully. I was stealing my husband shirts and he grew tired of my clumsy habits and coffee stains. When I couldn’t find PJS I loved as much as his, we decided to make our own…
What is the best lesson you have learnt so far?
How to actually MAKE a pair of pyjamas. Nor Joel or I were in fashion before we launched D&D so learning the supply chain has been a huge learning curve.
Career Highlight so far? Meeting Paul Smith, Opening our Pop Up, watching our team tell strangers about D&D and seeing how proud they are of their work!
What’s the best piece of advice that you have been given?
You win more bees with honey than with vinegar.
What’s next for you and for Desmond & Dempsey?
Were launching a BIG little something soon which is exciting…
Who is Desmond & Dempsey made for?
When we started it, it was made for me. Then we launched Mens so Joely could have some too. Now, our intention is to create a little Sunday luxury for as many people as we can. Our pyjamas are made for people to wear in those intimate morning moments with those closest to them, and occasionally the postman.
The Jewels
What is your most treasured piece of jewellery?
My grandad was a jeweller, so jewellery is a big part of my life. I have a gold bangle I have worn since I was born (that I literally can’t get off). I treasure my Grandmas little engagement ring and a pair of earrings my mum and dad gave and of course my wedding band! TOO many, I can’t pick one.
Next piercing?
Top of my ear, if I ever work up the nerve! I am a total sook and don’t like needles..
What is your favourite piece of Tada & Toy?
I love all the CUFFS and the classic heart studs.
The Tips
Saturday night: Go out or stay in?
Dinner in with friends and red wine.
Favourite travel destination?
We have just been to Mexico and I fell pretty hard for it!
Favourite London restaurant?
I love Campania on a Sunday!
Bedtime routine?
Super simple. Peppermint tea and a good novel.
Secret to a good night’s sleep?
For me, its taking time to unload all of my thoughts onto paper.
